We switched the girs to toddler beds last month. It was not an easy transition, but we’ve managed to trudge through it and now things have settled down significantly. The first week or two were the toughest, of course. The girls would not stay in their beds and naps became non-existent. They ended up in bed with us a few nights just so we could all get some sleep. I think we had some two year molars popping through at the same time so it probably wasn’t the best timing. I really wanted the girls to adjust to new big girl beds before baby arrives. We won’t need a crib for quite a few months, but still, the easier we can make the transition with new baby the better for all.
The girls have really settled down with the new beds as of late. They are napping consistently again and bed time (which Daddy handles most nights) seems to be going quite smoothly as well. I have a rocking chair in between the two beds and at first I had to rock them to get them down for their naps. Now they both willingly (well most of the time willingly) climb into their beds and I rock quietly until they fall asleep, which usually only takes 10 minutes to a half hour. When I do the girls’ night time routine I do the same thing. I think daddy does something different, but that is not my business!
Easter was of course low key. We are not big Easter celebrators around here. It’s nice to think about the changing of the seasons and the fact that Spring is official….but beyond that we just do baskets and spend the day as a family. The girls get a little candy and a few toys in their baskets. I remember as a kid getting tons of candy, but I try to be a little more moderate about the sugar intake so they just get a few pieces each.
I awoke Easter morning to sobbing Iris sitting outside our bedroom door. She, of course, got up early to look for her basket. And since the Easter bunny put the twins’ in an easier spot she found theirs and not hers. She was convinced the Easter bunny forgot her and just brought baskets for the girls. I had to calm her down and get her to look some more. She finally found it after a little coaxing and a more looking. Oh the drama.
The weather has taken a definite turn for the better and we have been enjoying outside as much as possible. Parks are back on the schedule, Iris has been riding her bike, and bubbles are a favorite pastime.
